Hammer Museum this summer.
The Hammer is shining a spotlight on emerging and under-recognized LA artists in their upcoming Made in L.A. 2012 biennial exhibition so KCRW DJs will do the same – while paying respect to the classics — when they take up residence in the outdoor courtyard seven consecutive Thursdays from June 28 to August 9. Music starts at 7pm every night, with the museum staying open late.
KCRW’s own Music Director Jason Bentley has lived in LA most of his life (SaMo High grad!) and is working up an energetic mix of dance grooves to set off the season this Thursday, June 28. DJ Jeremy Sole will open the evening, providing a virtual cruise through the barrios, hangouts and neighborhoods of this fine City of Angels.
Chuck P will put the focus on LA punk rock. Anne Litt will be spinning all of the best records that sunny SoCal inspired in the 60’s, 70’s and beyond and host a performance by The Allah-Las, a modern day representation of that era.
Valida is your ticket to ride on a one-stop train departing from sun-drenched Venice Beach to the wild and dreamy hills of Laurel Canyon.
Anthony Valadez, who will host a performance from globetrotting quartet Chicano Batman, says this about his set: “If NWA had a baby with Randy Newman and it was raised in East LA but hung out with the cool kids on Fairfax, then that would be my DJ set at The Hammer.”
