New Glen Hansard – Love Don’t Leave Me Waiting

Glen Hansard’s new song “Love Don’t Leave Me Waiting” is everything I love about his music – it’s romantic, longing, wistful, and has undeniable hints of Van Morrison.

It sounds familiar yet it’s a new addition to the canon of music I categorize as “heartbreaking yet hopeful”.

Like most people, I discovered Glen through the film “Once”, which he starred in with his Swell Season bandmate (and former romantic partner) Marketa Igrlova.

We were early supporters of the film and its music here at KCRW so its thrilling to see it’s reign continue – just today the musical version of the film was nominate for 11 Tonys! It’s really incredible.

Their 2007 live session at the station was right when the film was bubbling up beyond the indie scene and being embraced on a wider scale.

Their chemistry is undeniable – so much so that they ended up using three tracks from the session on Deluxe Collector’s Edition of the film (“Lies”, “Mind’s Made Up”, and “If You Want Me). Watch the session in out archives, including a version of “Into the Mystic”.

Glen’s new album is called “Rhythm and Repose” and will be out June 19 on Anti Records and he’ll play The Wiltern the very next day.
