Considering the recent commercial success of the Avett Brothers, Mumford & Sons and other “front porch” music ambassadors The Civil Wars, the world is primed and ready for The Lumineers.
It wasn’t an easy start for the trio from Denver. In 2002, band member Jeremiah Fraites tragically lost his brother to overdose. Turning to music as a coping mechanism – Jer and childhood friend Wesley Schultz started cutting their teeth in the crowded New York music scene. It proved difficult, so needing a change; they packed up and headed west.
The two rolled into Denver, connected with cellist Neyla Pekarek and immediately began swilling PBR and playing open mic nights with some of Denver’s most talented songwriters. Quicker than a lick, The Lumineers arrived.
In 2011, the band self-recorded an EP, crisscrossed the country and brought their stomp and clap acoustic tunes to anyone who would listen. And now we’re all paying attention.

With a bit of experience and time behind them, the band looks to make a big splash at this year’s SXSW and will go right into a full-scale tour following Austin.
