Meiko: Local Artist We Love

Meiko By Leigha Hodnet

From KCRW DJ Chris Douridas:

When I first met this lovely Georgia peach she was still bartending at Hotel Cafe, the famed Hollywood haven for up-and-comer songwriter types that birthed her.

This was long past the point of her budding notoriety as a girl with solid songs and a soft-spoken Southern allure (her curious moniker comes from having Japanese ancestry on her mother’s side).

Tonight Meiko stops by School Night -my weekly clubnight showcasing up-and-comers, willing icons, and favorite DJs – to celebrate her finest work yet.

Her “I’m In Love” EP features the hook-laden radio welcome mat “Between the Sheets“. You can grab the song on a physical EP available only at shows and on her PledgeMusic page.   The song will also be featured on her upcoming full length entitled “‘The Bright Side”, due out in March 2012.

Come celebrate with us!

Editor’s Note: KCRW hosted Meiko’s live radio debut back in 2008 and was the first to play her music. A volunteer on Morning Becomes Eclectic, the lovely Anahi Bustillos, handed Nic Harcourt a CD and the rest is history!

As a fan myself, I have to mention that I not only love her lyrics, but the stories she tells between songs at live shows as well. She is really funny!  Check out her site and you’ll see what I mean.
