When José James burst onto our airwaves last year with his album “BlackMagic”, it was clear he was a new kind of jazz singer. And our DJs – across the board – LOVED it.
The album not only made many of our DJs top 10 lists at the end of the year, but Music Director Jason Bentley ranked José’s live performance on Morning Becomes Eclectic among his top 10 of the year.
So when the artist emailed me to say he had a new song to send us, needless to say, I was excited.
The song is called “Trouble” and it will be released as a digital single worldwide on October 14 via iTunes and Amazon.

“Trouble” was produced by Jose himself in London and the new album, called “No Beginning, No End”, is forthcoming.
It features Robert Glasper, Chris Dave, Pino Palladino, Hindi Zahra and Emily King and is set for a summer 2012 release.
Before that, he’ll be stopping by NYC for the CMJ Music Conference on October 18 as part of the Future Now Tour showcase with Taylor McFerrin and the Robert Glasper Experiment. (And will be in San Francisco on October 16 at the SF Jazz Festival at Herbst Theater – maybe worth a road trip for those in LA!)
At the bottom of Jose’s email was a quote from the poet Rumi: “When you do things from your soul, you feel a river moving in you, a joy”. That is the sense you get whenever you listen to any of his music. He is a soulful man. And we’ll just have to keep our fingers crossed for an LA date soon.
