Two Groovy New Cd's from Miguel Migs and Mocean Worker

Written by

Two cool new cd’s have just come out from Miguel Migs and Mocean Worker.  The thing that distinguishes these two albums from a lot of house music is that they use top singers and integrate good production values, classic jazz solos, great singers into a seamless whole.  Both Miguel Migs and Adam Dorn–aka Mocean Worker–grew up as musicians and surrounded by top musicians and great music.  Adam’s dad was Joel Dorn, jazz deejay and producer for Atlantic Records–classics from Les McCann, Eddie Harris, Yusef Lateef, and Rahsaan Roland Kirk came out under his aegis.  Adam’s also a great bass player who’s played along with and subbed for Marcus Miller.  Ditto for Miguel Migs–he played with reggae musicians before becoming a house music maven in San Francisco and clubs around the world.

Both Mocean Worker and Miguel Migs are musicians who know how to use technology to produce very organic music.   Mocean Worker uses lots of talented musicians in his mix;  Miguel uses vocalists we’ve come to love:  Lisa Shaw, Me’shell Ndegeocello, and Evelyn Champagne King.   This is just part of the reason these two new albums are so satisfying.

Here are two cuts to enjoy.

From Miguel Migs, with a guest appearance from Meshell Ndegeocello, called Tonight:
