Richard Swift: Artist You Should Know

Written by

From KCRW DJ Dan Wilcox:

Leave it to Richard Swift to turn a broken finger into something amazing.

I’ve been an admirer of Richard Swift for years now, someone whose body of work I feel is criminally overlooked.

Although Swift is not easy to pin down, shifting easily between pop album releases to soundtracks to experimental electronic projects, at the heart of his music is a classic Tin Pan Alley sensibility to his songwriting.

I speak not in hyperbole when I say he is the closest thing my generation has to a Harry Nilsson… I mean that in the songwriting sense, not the booze and hardcore narcotics-inhalation sense (at least as far as I know).

So when Richard broke his finger a while back, he decided to take that pain and do with it what he does best: he wrote a song about it.

Broken Finger Blues by Richard Swift

Broken Finger Blues” shows Swift flexing his falsetto and giving us a drop-dead gorgeous slice of blue-eyed soul.

Download it for free from his Tumbr page and enjoy as we await a new full length album.
