A Tribute to “What’s Going On” at the Hollywood Bowl This Sunday

This Sunday, the Hollywood Bowl will host a night of Global Soul as part of KCRW’s World Festival. Not only will the great Stevie Wonder be making an appearance, but the evening includes a tribute to Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On”, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the album.

More from KCRW DJ Garth Trinidad:

“I recall a few years back, for no particular reason, deciding to play a full side of Marvin Gaye’s seminal Tamla release “What’s Going On“. As the record played, tracks flowing into one another, phone calls from grateful listeners rolled in. One man said it was the best half hour of radio he’d heard in a long time. When I was a boy, the album’s vocal and musical tone had a calming affect. As a man, its music and message reminds me of the things I aspire to in daily living – peace, justice, righteousness.

Picture yourself this Sunday night, underneath the stars, joy-filled and singing along to Stevie Wonder and friends like Janelle Monae, Ceci Bastida, Mia Doi Todd, and Sharon Jones, celebrating the legendary soul hero.

KCRW’s World Festival at The Bowl continues to bless the city of LA. This Sunday’s Global Soul concert is quite simply not to be missed. Hope to see you there 😉
