Gretchen Parlato: A Stunning New Voice

Written by

Gretchen Parlato is well-known on the East Coast, and among jazz followers because of her winning 2nd prize in the The Lost and Foundprestigious Thelonious Monk Competition.  She moved from LA to New York City, and her star is shining brighter all the time.  She uses her training and discipline to tackle pop songs and original material, and brings the finesse of a jazz  musician to whatever she sings.

On her new album, The Lost and Found (Obliqsound), she does originals as well as covers of Paul Simon and Simply Red .  Her version of the Lauryn Hill / Mary J. Blige song “All that I can Say” has nuance and total groove.  She is also adept at singing Brazilian music, as she proves on “Me and You”.  The song “Winter Wind” features superb jazz chords of Taylor Eigsti.   As an Amazon.com reviewer wrote, “her phrasing is subtle and concise, and, at the same time, smooth and sultry”.  She was recently featured on Weekend Edition Sunday on NPR, here.

Gretchen’s new album is her strongest yet.  She deserves to be known by your ears and your heart. Learn more about Gretchen Parlato at her website.
