From KCRW DJ Anne Litt:

The first thing that caught me when I heard Alela Diane’s new album was her voice.  It is front and center as it should be. The second thing I noticed was the warm analog sounds that began to envelope me as I listened.  There’s something special about listening to a record that is toasty, real, organic and full of rich voices and instrumentation.

Alela Diane and The Wild Divine swings. I’m not sure if “Of Many Colors” is a loose homage to Dolly Parton, but I love what Alela does with the lyrics.  Poetry.

There’s a beautiful simplicity in the instrumentation which is reflected in the mix.  Another song that jumps out for me is “To Begin.”  The full honey sounds and arrangement highlight Alela’s vocals.

The producer of the album is none other than the uber-talented Scott Litt.  Full disclosure.  My name is Anne Litt, and yes, we were married.  That out of the way, with Scott behind the board, her sound has taken a giant leap forward.
