Miami Horror: Artist You Should Know

I don’t know if it’s possible for a country to have an Official Music Genre, but if so Australia’s would definitely be disco.

It was, after all, their native sons The Bee Gees that brought this style of music out of the underground urban clubs and onto your grandmother’s hi-fi back in the 70’s.  In recent years, an electronically-charged version of disco has been championed by such Aussie acts as The Avalanches, Cut Copy & Empire of the Sun and legendary labels like Modular.

Melbourne-outfit Miami Horror continue that rich tradition and have released a brand new dancefloor classic, “Illumination,” arguably the best electronic disco record since Hercules & Love Affair’s debut.

The band has honed their chops opening up for Phoenix, Friendly Fires & Lilly Allen and it shows… whether it is the exhilarating crowd-pleaser “Holidays” or the hot-and-cold pulse of “I Look To You” — the latter sounding like a cross between Chic and Saint Etienne, which makes for the sexiest dancefloor come-on you’ll hear all year.  Miami Horror’s Illumination is an undeniable, feel-good dance record for those of us that aren’t ready for summer to be over.

“I Look To You”

I’ll be spinning at the first-ever full-band performance of Miami Horror THIS Saturday, September 18, at The Central in Santa Monica. Find out more info here.
