I happened to take a Cuban friend of mine to the kick-off concert for KCRW’s World Festival and when I told him Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club was playing the next Sunday, he pretty much flipped out! Omara Portuondo was the female voice of the original Buena Vista Social Club and now fronts the Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club, a 13-piece band. The group performs the music that originated in Cuban dancehalls in the 1950s.

I expect a lot of hip shaking throughout the Bowl this coming Sunday!

Also, tUnE-yArDs is an artist you MUST see live. Its hard to do her music justice by describing it but let’s just say its an experience! Her voice is truly unique and its her best instrument, even though she plays a mean ukulele.

Headlining the night is the dance floor princess of electro-pop  Goldfrapp. The band’s newest record is swirling synth-pop with electronica influences that are sure to light up the night. Flavorpill called it “Xanadu for the year 2010.” Sounds fun, right?

See you there!
