Delta Spirit on MBE

Written by

Delta Spirit have been kicking out excellent tunes since their very first EP, but their new album, “History From Below”  is by far their best work yet and it was fantastic to see it in a live setting.   Matthew Vasquez was busking on the streets of San Diego when he was “discovered” by drummer Brandon Young and a band was soon born. They have since relocated to Long Beach, so we are proud to call them locals.

I had the honor of introducing them at a sold out show at the Troubadour around their last record and hanging out with the band in NYC during the CMJ music conference. Matt’s music knowledge is expansive and  impressive — I think he could talk for hours about his influences if you let him.  The band has been touring steadily for years, making friends across the country, and you can tell they’re anxious to get back on the road. Today’s performance kicked off their tour and I highly recommend seeing them while you can. Judging by the reaction in the studio today (and the phones ringing in the front office) you can expect them to be playing bigger venues on their next go-around.

Their music is bluesy Americana played with pure passion, heart and soul.  Check out the set here
