A Love Letter to LA

Written by

endless summerAs a Miami native who grew up on the Beach Boys, I have a personal connection to today’s Guest DJ set. I have vivid memories of being about 7 years old and flipping the vinyl on the Beach Boy’s “Endless Summer” for hours on end and dreaming about what it would be like to be a California girl. Now that I am one, I appreciate their music even more.

Today’s guest Jim Heimann is an LA native who created a love letter to his hometown in his Guest DJ Project set. As a cultural anthropologist and author, he has a unique perspective and incredible appreciation for the city and it was wonderful to hear his stories.

Jim veers from the Chinatown theme to the epitome of 60’s Southern California beach culture and – of course – includes his favorite highway driving song.

Heimann is the executive editor of art book publisher Taschen America and recently edited the photography book, Los Angeles: Portrait of a City. DJ  Tom Schnabel ran into the station excitedly one day to tell me about this book, dubbing it the best photography book on LA EVER.

Enjoy some California dreaming and get ready for summer with this set of songs!
