world_fest_imageKCRW’s World Festival celebrates its 12th season with programs showcasing sounds from around the globe.  Created in partnership with the LA Phil, the 6 Sunday programs highlight established and rising artists from diverse backgrounds.

JUNE 20: Baaba Maal, Tinariwen, Fool’s Gold

Celebrated Senegalese superstar Baaba Maal delivers a rapturous live set fusing African and Western grooves. Tinariwen, legendary poet guitarists and soul rebels from the southern Sahara desert, make their long-awaited Bowl debut. Also making their debut is Echo Park-based collective Fool’s Gold. Additional artists to be announced.

JUNE 27: Goldfrapp

Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club featuring Omara Portuondo Celebrating an upcoming release, British group Goldfrapp makes their long-awaited Hollywood Bowl debut with a rush of upbeat synth pop, while Omara Portuondo, the legendary Cuban vocalist from the Buena Vista Social Club (and former dancer and singer at the famed Tropicana Club), performs nostalgic torch songs and salsa rhythms. JULY 25: Reggae Night IX with Jimmy Cliff

The annual reggae celebration at the Hollywood Bowl features the legendary Jamaican vocalist Jimmy Cliff, who was recently named a 2010 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee. Additional artists to be announced.

AUGUST 29: The Chemical Brothers

The Bowl is transformed into a giant electronic dance party when Grammy-winning, big beat pioneers The Chemical Brothers take the stage with their infectious and euphoric dancefloor grooves. Additional artist to be announced.

SEPTEMBER 19: ¡VIVA MEXICO! With Ozomatli and Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles

In honor of two of Mexico’s most important national anniversaries – the 200th anniversary of Mexico’s Independence and the 100th anniversary of the Mexican Revolution – the Hollywood Bowl celebrates Mexican Music. Multi-culti L.A. heroes Ozomatli return to the Hollywood Bowl with its socially-conscious mash-up of hip-hop, salsa, cumbia, dub, and funk. America’s first all-female mariachi ensemble, Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles, share their passion for mariachi music with a captivating and expressive performance.
