KCRW’s June Volunteer of the Month

Written by

Molly Gignoux is a sincere, enthusiastic, professional productivity machine. Being in the front office with her is always a treat. As a self starter she is always prepped and ready to go, working on one of many projects with ease. She has really owned her role as Music Publicity assistant, which is no easy task.

Rachel Reynolds, Music Publicity Director says…
I can verify that assisting me is no easy feat. It’s a whirlwind of activity and Molly is completely calm and grounded amidst it all. She has been invaluable to me over the last couple months. I feel extremely lucky to have someone that I can trust to make decisions on my behalf. I’m throwing more at her every day and she always steps up to the challenge — with a smile.

Where did you grow up and do you have any siblings?
I grew up in Boston, MA and knew I wanted to move to California since I was 10 years old!

What is your current occupation?
Currently I am the Special Events Manager for the Wiltern Theater/Live Nation. I book all types of events from private shows and corporate meetings to weddings and film shoots.

What is your fantasy occupation?
Being a Rockstar! Playing bass in a band and traveling the world…of course.

When did you first discover KCRW?
When I first moved to Los Angeles, someone told me KCRW was the NPR station for the area. I started listening to all the programs and was hooked. From then on, I couldn’t stand listening to anything else (still can’t!). I couldn’t believe there was so much of what I was interested in on one station.

How did you find your way to our station for volunteering?
I knew I wanted to volunteer my time to something in LA, but wasn’t sure where. I reached out to some colleagues in a networking group I am a part of and described the type of volunteer work in which I was interested. KCRW came up immediately and I knew right away it would be the perfect fit for me. The station had given me so much over the years and this was the perfect opportunity to give back. Here I am a year later and I can’t imagine my life without my weekly experiences at KCRW!

What’s your current volunteer position and how long have you been at it?
Currently I am assisting Rachel Reynolds in Music Publicity. I have been working with Rachel for about 6 months.

Favorite volunteer moment?
When I was able to sneak in and watch The Horrors perform on MBE.

If you could get on the mic and say one sentence on the air, what would it be?
Good morning everyone, this is Molly Gignoux sitting in for Jason Bentley on Morning Becomes Eclectic 89.9 KCRW!

What song have you hit repeat on lately?
War on Drugs “Red Eyes”
Favorite book, movie?
Favorite book: 1984
Movie: Amelie

Favorite thing to do outside the station (hobbies, recreation, etc.)?
Live music, art museums, DIY projects, painting, playing bass

What does KCRW mean to you?
KCRW offers me the comforting sense of community. It is composed of like-minded, innovative and interesting people…and I couldn’t think of a better place to volunteer my time!

It would be a dark day if we didn’t have Molly here. We know she is fully committed to her very impressive, very real job at the Wiltern, and are glad she takes the time each week to be here with us.  So for now, I say we are so pleased to have you in our little KCRW family!
