KCRW Wins Numerous Awards

A note from KCRW’s Program Director, Gary Scott:

KCRW took home a few awards at June’s L.A. Press Club gala – Saul Gonzalez was recognized as the top radio journalist of the year, Bob Carlson’s UnFictional created the best radio documentary, Avishay Artsy and Darby Maloney won for best use of sound in a feature, independent producer Carolina Miranda took first for a story she did with The Business, and Caitlin Shamberg took first for use of social media around a special produced by Madeleine Brand, Saul and Matt Holzman.

We also have a dozen second and third place finishes – in many cases we came in just behind our first place winners.

Awards, like ratings, don’t define what we do at KCRW, nor why we do it. But there is no doubt that these awards – along with a few others we’ve received in the past couple months – illustrate just how good our content truly is.

I also know that the producers and hosts who got to attend Sunday’s gala, and whose names appear on plaques and certificates, share the win with everyone at KCRW – from the production crew who mixes and the engineers who keep the microphones lubricated, to the music folks who inspire us and the membership and marketers who connect us to our audience.

KCRW also recently won a regional Edward R. Murrow award and an award from PRNDI – Public Radio News Directors Institute
