Madjo

Performance: April 26, 2012

At Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz

On stage, Madjo’s songs resonate to a thousand influences. Not yet in her 30s, this French singer with Senegalese heritage calls out with a magnificent voice and inspired lyrics. Her compositions are inspired by artists such as Rickie Lee Jones, Joni Mitchell and Fiona Apple.

Along the lines of Yael Naim, Sophie Hunger and Hindi Zahra, Madjo is another of those voices that separate themselves from the pack, in both English and French, cheerful or melancholic, both heavily tortured and deliciously inviting.
