“Marley,” the somewhat epic tale of the life of the reggae master, would be my pick this weekend. It’s a fascinating movie about a fascinating man, with amazing interviews with the people who knew him best. And of course, the music couldn’t be better. I guess my only question would be: why can’t the men who preach peace and unity be nicer to their wives and children?
Also out on DVD this week, I recommend “Shame.” Though it’s not exactly what I call a date movie.

Early on, Matt’s dad exposed him to great films like “2001,” “Rashoman” and “Bananas.” Ben Holzman, an elementary school principal, was a lover of film in all shapes and sizes, and helped run an art theater in Long Beach, California for a time.
