Before anything else, we owe one more enormous thank-you to all our brave contestants. None of this would have been possible without your energy and enthusiasm, and we are so grateful!

We also owe some serious gratitude to our panel of celebrity judges — Eleanor McDowall, Rob Rosenthal, and Alix Spiegel — who listened to our ten finalists and evaluated each piece’s creativity, technical skill, incorporation of the theme, and overall quality.

While our judges worked on selecting the top prizewinners, we chose the winners of the UnFictional Award  (the piece that best captures the spirit of UnFictional, judged by program creator Bob Carlson) and the Social Butterfly Award (the team that made the most effective use of social media during the race).

Here are this year’s winners:

First Place: You Should Know What’s Right Next Door, by Gamma Radio

“You Should Know What’s Right Next Door” was produced by Anna Boiko-Weyrauch, who will win a $1000 contract to air her piece on UnFictional, a one-year PRX Producer account, a one-year Soundcloud Premium account and a KCRW t-shirt.

Second Place: Psychic Blob, by Jeff Emtman

“Psychic Blob” was produced by Jeff Emtman, who will win a $500 contract to air his piece on UnFictional, a one-year PRX Producer account, a one-year Soundcloud Premium account and a KCRW t-shirt.

Third Place: Coming Home by Grit City Radio

“Coming Home” was produced by Whitney Henry-Lester and Lowell Wyse, who will win a $300 contract to air their piece on UnFictional, a one-year PRX Producer account, a one-year Soundcloud Premium account and a KCRW t-shirt.

UnFictional Award: Bobby is Trying to Get in Touch, by so it goes

“Bobby is Trying to Get in Touch” was produced by Abby Wendle, and will air on UnFictional along with this year’s winners. They also get a one-year PRX Producer account, a one-year Soundcloud Premium account and a KCRW t-shirt.

Social Butterfly Award: Team G-Tron

Kristina Loring and Ashleyanne Krigbaum

Producers Ashleyanne Krigbaum and Kristina Loring wowed us with their relentless tweets, their goofy outtakes and their tastefully cat-saturated Flickr album. Of course, we also loved their piece: “Caturday, What a Day.” They will win a one-year PRX Producer account, a one-year Soundcloud Premium account and a KCRW t-shirt.

Congratulations to all our winners, and to everyone who participated in this year’s race! You’re an amazing bunch, and we can’t wait to see you next year!
