Congratulations to independent producer Myke Dodge Weiskopf, whose beautiful documentary, “The Ghosts of Fire Island,” has been named Best Large Newsroom Documentary by Public Radio New Directors Incorporated (PRNDI). Since 1988, the PRNDI Awards have celebrated excellence in local public radio, and we are so thrilled to see Myke’s work recognized alongside pieces from WNYC, WBEZ, and other wonderful public radio stations throughout the country.

Myke’s documentary, which aired on UnFictional last December, is a moving retrospective on the changes wrought to one of New York’s most vibrant gay communities as its members struggled to confront the emerging AIDS epidemic of the early 1980s. In addition to the episode dedicated to his documentary, you can visit Myke’s website to see photographs and videos of his subjects.
