This pie comes to us from Erin McKenna, the founder of Babycakes, a New York City and downtown Los Angeles Kosher, vegan, gluten-free bakery.

This recipe came about because of an America’s Funniest Pets re-run (once is hilarious, twice is torturous). Chess pie is one of the South’s great contributions to the culinary arts.  One folk story asserts that it was originally called “just pie,” which was drawled as “jus’ pie,” eventually rolling off the Southern tongue as “chess pie.”

Pale yellow-gold in color; the two grapes are Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, very traditional for the Entre-Deux-Mers region it comes from (located between the two rivers Garonne and Dordogne). The aroma, also typical of this region is very fruity with gravel and mineral notes.  Tastes of white stone fruits with good acidity and a crisp finish.
