Jonathan Gold visits an old favorite, Lawry’s The Prime Rib. For many years Lawry’s has been a Los Angeles institution and Gold is still impressed. He always orders the Diamond Jim Brady cut of beef, creamed spinach and the extra large Idaho potatoes that are famously “tubbed and scrubbed.”

Jonathan Gold reviews UMAMIcatessen, a collaborative restaurant featuring food by Adam Fleischman, Chris Cosentino and Micah Wexler, as well as cocktails by Adrian Biggs. He describes it as the ultimate dude food with dishes like fried pig’s ears with brainaise and foie gras and jelly doughnuts – both of which he calls delicious.

This week on Good Food, Jonathan Gold visits Kang Hodong Baekjeong in Chapman Plaza, which he describes as the epicenter of Korean Nightlife in Los Angeles. He says the meat at this Korean BBQ joint is better than most other restaurants and he is currently fascinated by the dosirak – the Korean equivalent of a Bento Box – because here it’s shaken vigorously to distribute all of the ingredients therefore you get the perfect amount of ingredients with each chopstick full.

This week on Good Food, Jonathan Gold talks about LaOn in Koreatown. He describes the dishes as a modern interpretation of a classic Korean menu – similar to tapas. His favorite dishes are the beef tartare, the seven wrap, and the jeon with either fish or vegetables.

This week on Good Food, Jonathan Gold talks about Shanghai No. 1 Seafood Village in the San Gabriel Valley. He says this is the most interesting restaurant to open in the SGV in years and gushes about the exquisite menu which is the size of “the September issue of Vogue.” His favorite dishes are the Old Alley Pork, Stone Pot Fried Rice, Xiao Long Bao (Soup Dumplings), and the Smoked Fish.
