Jonathan Gold Does “Burmese Fusion” at Golden Owl

Written by

Jonathan Gold is the Pulitzer Prize-winning food writer for the LA Times. This week, he heads to La Puente to try “Burmese fusion” cuisine at The Golden Owl. Myanmar—or Burma, as it was known until recently—is a melting pot of culinary influences, being bordered by Thailand, Laos, China, India and Bangladesh.

What to order: The mohinga (cat fish stew), shan noodles, barbecue pork bowl and their version of Burmese tea leaf salad.

Where is it: 16423 Maplegrove Street, La Puente, CA (626-917-1135)

Pro-tip: Menu items can be made vegan-friendly by request. Most customers order takeout since the restaurant only seats six.
