Jonathan Gold is the Pulitzer Prize winning food writer for the LA Times. This week he takes us to Culver City where Akasha Richmond has transformed the old Ford’s Filling Station into a farm-to-table Indian restaurant called Sāmbār. While the pork shoulder vindaloo may not be for purists, Mr. Gold digs the mash-up.

What to order: Saag and goat paneer naan, stone fruit salad, goat curry, zucchini kofta, pork shoulder vindaloo.

Where is it?: 9531 Culver Blvd., Culver City, (310) 558-8800

Pro tip: Dine early and take advantage of happy hour prices (from 4-7pm). Also, check out the cocktail list before you go – you may decide to take an uber.
