Jon Favreau and Roy Choi detail the making of the new film Chef. Ruth Reichl discusses her new novel and punk rocker turned chef Terri Wahl offers brunch ideas.

1. Jon Favreau and Roy Choi Discuss the Making of Chef–Actor/filmmaker Jon Favreau and Chef Roy Choi join us to talk about the making of the film Chef. Favreau stars in the film which chronicles a chef’s journey from a stodgy Brentwood kitchen to a Cuban inspired food truck. Host Evan Kleiman says Chef is one best Hollywood portrayals of a professional kitchen.

2. Ruth Reichl Delves into Fiction with Delicious!–Formerly the New York Times restaurant critic and editor of Gourmet Magazine, Ruth Reichl is also known for her trilogy of memoirs. She turns her attention to fiction with her new book Delicious!

3. Jonathan Gold on Controversy (and Food) at Red Medicine–Jonathan Gold is the Pulitzer Prize-winning food writer for the Los Angeles Times. This week he reviews Red Medicine, a restaurant steeped in controversy. Perhaps best known for outing the identity of LA Times food critic S. Irene Virbila, the restaurant is also known for the food which Jonathan describes as “neo-Nordic.”

He recommends the brassicas, trout roe, chicken dumplings and the dungeness crab.

4. The Auntie Em’s Cookbook, a Celebration of Brunch–Terri Wahl is the chef/owner of Auntie Em’s Kitchen in Eagle Rock. Her forthcoming book The Auntie Em’s Cookbook is a celebration of her love for homemade food and good music. Each recipe comes with a song to cook it by. 5. Market Report–Laura Avery talks to Chef Brian Dunsmoor of The Hart & the Hunter and the newly opened Ladies’ Gunboat Society. Dunsmoor is serving a chicken fried rabbit right now at The Ladies’ Gunboat Society.
