Thanksgiving To-Go

Are you just now realizing that Thanksgiving is coming up?  Don’t panic. Contrary to popular belief, you actually don’t need to make your Thanksgiving feast from scratch.

You have several options: have a potluck, or just make one thing and and buy the rest. These days there are so many high quality Thanksgiving To-Go choices, it isn’t worth stressing about trying to do it all.

Here are a few of my favorite places to get everything from sides and pies, and even the whole shebang.

1. Akasha– Culver City
Thanksgiving is one of Akasha’s favorite meals so she goes all out to make sure we have a good one.  Whole Turkeys sliced and ready to go, Leek and Chestnut Stuffing, sides from the best farmers market produce and of course pies. Lots of pies.

2. Farmshop– Brentwood
Farmshop has one of the most interesting and unexpected Thanksgiving menus.  Along with the traditional Diestel Turkey (they cook or you cook), gravy, stuffing and pies– there is pumpkin hummus with pickled ginger and smoked almonds, salmon rilettes and a pommes aligot “kit” with Pt. Reyes Toma Cheese and chopped Black Truffles

3. MB Post– Manhattan Beach

According to their Facebook Page, MB Post will be selling these Thanksgiving dishes this year.

Bacon Cheddar Buttermilk Biscuits (by the dozen, $30)
Stuffing with wild rice, pork sausage and sage (by the quart, $18)
Whipped garlic and olive oil potatoes (by the quart, $15)
Cranberry kumquat relish (by the cup, $8)
Turkey gravy (by the quart, $12)
**New this year! (and in limited supply)** Caramel pumpkin pie ($28)

4. The Larder at Burton Way– Beverly Grove; The Larder at Tavern– Brentwood

You can order a la carte dishes from an extensive list including the famed A.O.C. Dates with Bacon and Parmesan,  a Winter Squash Gratin with Rajas and Queso, or you can get the whole meal including organic turkey.  For 10 people it’s $448.  That’s a steal just in the gas you’ll save not running around the city like a crazed human.

5. Clementine– Century City
Chef Annie Miller has both Hanukkah and Thanksgiving essentials. And because this year Hanukkah and Thanksgiving fall on the same day, and won’t again for another 70,000 years– Clementine might be the place to get your ‘Thanksgivukkah’ fixings. As a side note- Chef Annie Miller’s deviled eggs are addicting.

6. Cooks County– Mid-City West
Our pals Dan and Roxana are doing “Thanksgiving in the Bag” which includes your choice of sides like white cheddar biscuits, wild mushroom bread pudding and of course, Roxana’s pies.

7. Huckleberry– Santa Monica
Huckleberry offers the most diverse range of turkey dishes from braised organic turkey thighs, smothered turkey,  toturkey meatballs/ But they also have lots of other great itms like brisket and vegetable pot pie.  The dessert menu has tons of choice including a take and bake apple cinnamon pie and take and bake coffee cake so you can get those smells going in your kitchen.

8. Joan’s on 3rd– Beverly Grove
Joan’s on 3rd offers a whole 10-12 lb bird for $75 and all the traditional sides you could want including my personal favorite, creamed spinach.  Yum!

9.Little Flower Candy Company– Pasadena
From breakfast baked goods and savory quiche to traditional sides like pecan bread dressing, root veg puree and mushroom gravy—Christine Moore and her team have a lot of great Thanksgiving dishes to choose from. They even have a fully cooked turkey breast, pistachio olive cake, and persimmon compote for dessert!

10. Sqirl in Virgil Village

Sqirl is focusing their Thanksgiving menus on sides and two desserts.  They will be offering creamed kale (so LA!) and a cranberry bourbon compote for dessert.

11. Proof Bakery– Silver Lake
Proof Bakery is making classic pumpkin pie, pecan pie with muscovado sugar and for starters, gougeres.

12. The Village Bakery and Café– Atwater Village
The Village Bakery and Café is taking orders for all their traditional pies, desserts and baked goods for the holiday.  Cannoli for Thankgiving anyone?  Maybe they count it as a Hanukkah treat.  They also sell pie dough, in case you want to make your own.

13.  Ammo
Just heard from Benny that once again Ammo will be bringing an Italianate spin to their offerings.  Here’s a sampling: a platter of Charcuterie to start, Turkey ready to eat or cook, salad of Coleman lettuces, Humboldt Fog, Pomegranate, Hazelnuts with Sherry Vinaigrette.  Plus Kubocha Squash Soup Puree w/Pepitas and Creme Fraiche.
