Your Eastside vs. Westside Favorites

eastvwestbannerAs part of KCRW’s Eastside/Westside Throwdown this week, where we settle one of the important questions facing our city (which side of the sprawl is best?), we asked Good Food listeners to text us their take. Which Angelenos eat best? And where’s good to eat in your neighborhood?

1400 very opinionated people responded. “Eastside has better values than the Westside,” one person wrote. Another texter countered that the vegetables are better in the west. Though, as someone else pointed out, “People on the Westside never leave it so I don’t think you’ll get accurate answers.”

Several people expressed discomfort with the question, arguing that Eastside/Westside throwdowns contribute to a divided city. But they also inspire neighborhood pride, like the big grin that must be on the face of the person who wrote, โ€œEast eats better…Miracle Mile area and M Cafe is my hood hang!!โ€

We mapped all your hood hangs. Take your fellow listeners’ advice, and have a new experience across town, wherever you live. Open the map in a new window to add your local favorite.

I appreciate the maps, for sure, but I submitted The Back Abbey in Claremont and it's not there. Although it's owned by the same people that own Union on Yale, I think it's better. It's a gastropub with a burger-heavy menu. The burgers are outstanding and the fries are exceptional. The latter are true Belgian-style frites: fried in duck fat.

  • Amazing, marvelous, so full of enthusiasm, so true. I just loved what is said above. Its so clear and so real. I don’t have words to express how beautiful and lively it is. These lessons has got all the truths of life and m sure one who’ll accept it and follow it, will definitely go a long way in life and that too happily. I liked all the lessons and some are super fantastic. Feeling so good ๐Ÿ™‚

I responded within minutes but my pick was not posted. The gist of my post was how disrespected the OC is when it comes to food. Can you say proves my point?

Hi guys. I tried to post all the restaurants that people sent in. I've added The Back Abbey, and if you have any more favorites, I encourage you to add them. I learned about so many interesting restaurants through making the map.

Robin, we love Orange County. We just had a Good Food Happy Hour last night at the Bruery in Placentia, and we love when Gustavo Arellano comes on the show to give us OC restaurant recommendations.
