Once again we are excited to present Stacie Hunt’s KCRW Wine Club selections for the 2012 Summer Pledge Drive. Stacie (who comes from Du Vin Wine and Spirits and Splash Productions) is our resident wine guru and she has selected three fabulous bottles for summer sipping. Listeners who pledge $150 or join KCRW at $20 or more per month can choose this package as their premium. Simply call during Good Food (this Saturday, August 18, 11-Noon) or join online. And thanks! Keep reading for her selections…

2011 Conde de Valdamar, Rioja, Spain (85% Garnacha, 15% Tempranillo)

This Rosé is darker than most, but don’t let that fool you. Robert Parker gave this wine a score of 87 and Stephen Tanzer gave it an 88. It’s an explosion of flavors that are fruity but also dry and clean.

2010 Pico Maccario Barbera d’Asti, Piemonte Italy

This bottle of 100% Barbera has no oak. Instead it spends 9 months in steel tanks, keeping the fruit cool and fresh. On the nose it has hints of red cherry, almond and strawberry. In your mouth the berry flavors expand to earthy minerality. It’s a bright tasting wine with a fresh finish.

2010 Baron de La Doucette Sauvignon Blanc, Loire Valley, France

This bottle is primarily Sauvignon Blanc. Fresh from the chiller, you’ll smell notes of grass, green herbs, white citrus flowers and roasted nuts. Once in your mouth you’ll also pick up a light lemony citrus and then some gooseberry. Lastly you’ll get a stony, mineral finish that has a zip to it!
