Photo: Street Food in Tucson, Arizona

Written by

Every day this month we’re going to be featuring a photo of street food from around the world.  It’s all part of our celebration of Global Street Food, culminating in our  event on May 1 at the Broad Stage.  Email us your photo and we’ll post it on our blog.

These photos are from Veronica:

These pictures were taken in Tucson in the summer of 2009. It’s hard to imagine that in 100+ degree heat every day people would want to eat on the street, but when the food is so good, how can you resist? The two main things sold from carts in Tucson are tacos and hot dogs, — but before you scoff at the hot dogs, know that these are no run-of-the-mill hot dogs. They’re covered in beans, a couple kinds of salsa and your choice of grilled peppers. Oh, and they’re wrapped in bacon. The tacos are pretty special, too, especially the so-called Indian tacos, one example of which you can see here, purchased from the line-up of vendors outside the Mission San Xavier de Bac. That taco was as big as my head!
