Santa Ana Treasures: Ochoa’s Chorizo and El Toro Market

Written by

This week on Good Food, we are highlighting 2 Mexican-American treasures in Santa Ana, Orange County.  The OC Weekly’s Gustavo Arellano always tells us about great places to eat in Orange County, this time he recommends two different markets.  The first, is Ochoa’s Chorizo.  Aurora Ochoa began making chorizo in her home kitchen and then started selling it to neighbors.  She and her husband, Salvador, now operate in the factory on Warner Ave.

El Toro is a gigantic meat market, tortilla factory and grocery store.  When Evan and I visited, we got a tour from Rudy, one of the owners.  We saw the piles of fresh masa being made into tortillas, tasted fresh carnitas and sipped champurrado.  Their selection of meats, cheeses, fresh salsas and tortillas is amazing and worth the trip.
