Street Food Fest – Takin’ It to the Streets
Laryl Garcia is a producer on Good Food:
Apparently the key ingredients to the sold-out LA Street Food Fest’s Summer Tasting Event are an elastic waistband and the ability to pace oneself. I didn’t get the memo. This season’s event moved from downtown to the Rose Bowl, better to accommodate the hungry brethren. Inspired bites from over 60 vendors ranged from a traditional gazpacho from Maggie’s Frittatas to Starry Kitchen’s crispy tofu balls hocked by Nguyen in his banana suit. The Ice Cream Social featured watermelon & mint on a stick from Pop Art Popsicles and The Good Karma Truck’s popular cantaloupe sorbet. Here’s a sampling of other foods with street cred.
Dogtown Dogs’ self-titled entry, an all beef dog with whole grain Dijon mustard and crisp fennel slaw with roasted red peppers.
S’mores whoopie pie, white chocolate brownie cone and Neapolitan marshmallow served up by Whisk LA.
Sweet potato with Nutella and peanut butter – Fresh Fries ode to a classic.
Newcomer, The Mighty Boba Truck, won’t be gassing up until September but offered tasty curry spud balls and mighty concoctions.
Plain and Simple Melts from perennial favorite, The Grilled Cheese Truck.
Vintage Longboards Ice Cream started a Bar Fight with Ghirardelli chocolate, peanuts and pretzels.

you must have had a VIP ticket to get that much food! by the time those of us with general admission tickets got in… they were handing out tiny samples that you had to wait 30 minutes in line for… so much for sitting down and socializing with my friends! as much as i love this idea and want to try all this food, i thought the event was a failure… i had to go out to eat afterwards… won't be wasting my money again.
I gotta say that no one has talked about the Coolhaus's Mint Ice Cream Sandwich which was TO DIE FOR. The other treats you mentioned were total winners in my stomach as well.
It's true, the lines were way to long to really get to try much. Maybe next year they can bring the trucks or something and charge people instead of paying an admission. Something has to change. It was no fun waiting in lines for so long.
This was the worst $40 spent in a long time. 20min – 30 min wait in front of every stall to get one tenth of a sandwich. Even worse, no respect for vegetarians. After standing and waiting for 30 min, many stalls tell you that they have nothing vegetarian at all. Why cant every stall just clearly mention what they are serving (not at the stall but near the back of the line!) and whether it is vegetarian/vegan or not.
The food itself (once you get to it) was good but not worth the pain.
At the Rose Bowl no guidance for parking or how to exit the parking. Plenty of cars were just driving around struggling to get out of the parking lot once the even was done.
I will never ever go to this event or any event organized by the same folks again.
My husband and I arrived at 6pm looking to enjoy great food and drink. We waited in a couple of lines for over 20 minutes each…one served something so small I don't even know what it was…and tried to sell us his book. The other served a kabob of chicken that was raw! We decided to get in the beer line and waited for over 20 minutes only to be told that we needed a yellow wrist band to get served beer. WHAT? Forget it. I left. My husband stayed for a while longer hoping to get his money's worth. Worst experience we've had in a long time.
