Noted Cookbook author Cliff Wright has some great ideas for spicing up a listener’s Sabbath Cholent:
Listener Question: Cholent
Listen to Martha Schulman, Cliff Wright and I ansewer listener questions on this week’s Good Food.
As per my Rabbi, spice is Kosher for Shabbat, unless it happens to coincide with Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, as it did in 2009. In that case we do not add any hot spice, instead we add some sweetness with either honey or sugar. Every synagogue has its own version of Cholent, and at the Downtown LA Jewish Community Center, we have the best in LA.
