A listener sent us a clip of his friend’s film about sushi-master Jiro Ono called Dreams of Sushi. This clip, isn’t from the movie, but it’s from the same filmmaker. It features Nozawa, of Sushi Nozawa in Studio City, and it’s a glimpse of the incredible dedication it takes to create great sushi – and it’s a reminder why you should never order a spicy tuna roll.

Benjamin Bailly of Fraiche in Culver City was at the Wednesday Santa Monica Farmers Market this week talking to Laura Avery (Market Report) about his Crispy Loup de Mer. He makes seasonally, right now with sunchokes, crosnes, salsify and red wine jus. Weiser family farms has sunchokes and crosnes. The recipe is after the jump…

Since it’s the end of the year, and the internet is filled with “best-of” lists, I thought we should look back on our year here on Good Food. I asked the Good Food team (including myself, Evan and our segment producers Gillian, Laryl and Candace) to put together a list the three things that stuck with them this year. Let us know what segments you loved, hated and everything in between.

There is no doubt that truffles are decadent. But, it’s the holidays, and they’re in season, so why not splurge. After all, the prized black truffles cost hundreds of dollars for a pound – and someone even was killed over truffles recently in France. But I’m getting ahead of myself, we’re just talking about dinner. Joachim Splichal, legendary restauranteur of The Patina Group, loves his truffles. He’s hosting a serious truffle feast on January 11 and 12 at his Patina Restaurant in LA. (He talks to Evan about the …

Stacie Hunt is a sommelier with Du Vin Wine and Spirits in West Hollywood and she’s a frequent guest on Good Food. This week on the show she shared some really interesting stories, and recommendations, of Moroccan wine. The country is the largest producer of wine in the Muslim world, producing about 34 million bottles annually. While Muslims are forbidden from drinking wine, the market is driven mostly by foreigners.

For me, the SkyMall Magazine is endlessly entertaining. It rarely changes, yet everytime I board an airplane I pull a worn copy out of the seat pocket in front of me and start turning the pages. Amidst the clever litter boxes that double as indoor planters there are hundreds of gifts for the food lover that has it all. You might laugh, but I’ve always wanted that edges-only brownie pan , haven’t you?
Check out a few of my favorites, after the jump…

“One boy and his Netflix Instant account.”
I discovered a new blog this weekend and I just had to share. It’s the Lawrence / Julie & Julia Project and it’s hilarious. Lawrence is a student at Northwestern and he decided to watch the film Julie & Julia every day, for a year. I’ll repeat that. Every day. For a year. He’s only on Day 21 and already he seems fed up with the film (or at least the Julie character). Definitely check it out.
