When “Cheers” Isn’t Enough

In Los Angeles, you’ll often hear “salud” instead of “cheers.”  In fact, there are as many ways to toast as their are languages.  For instance, in Scandinavia, people say “skål,” and in Thai, they say “sawasdi.”  Here are a couple toasts that might work this holiday season:

“May your sheep all have lambs, but no on Christmas night.” – Irish toast

“Three be the things I shall never attain: envy, content, and sufficient champagne.” – Dorothy Parker

“All human history attests / That happiness to man – the hungry sinner – / Since Eve ate apples, much depends on dinner!” – Lord Byron
