Orthodox Jewish communities are not allowed to carry belongings on Shabbat, unless it’s within their own home. They’ve found a way around this law by creating a “wall,” often a barely perceptible thread, around their neighborhood, known as an eruv. In West LA, a team of rabbis patrols the borders of the eruv every week to inspect and repair it.
