Tomorrow evening, starting 7:00PM, is the second outing for GLOW, the art-on-the-Santa-Monica-beach event that attracted 100s of thousands of people two years ago. Although it is shorter (finishing at 4:00 instead of 7:00AM) and will feature a soundtrack accompanying the art provided by KCRW’s own Jason Bentley, instead of DJs, the night promises to be as good as last time. Artists and architects that have designed one-off installations include Predock_Frane (see Luminous Passage, above), Anne Bray, Rafael Lozano-Hemmer and Steve Roden. Jessica Cusick is cultural affairs manager for the City of Santa Monica and she explained the idea behind GLOW in the last segment of this DnA. And if the crowds on the beach might be daunting, take in GLOW from the comfort of Casa del Mar’s beachfront lobby, where you can sip cocktails and bask in the soft glow of artist Shingo Francis installation there, part of the hotel’s Live Well Again Art and Events series.
