1. Griffith Park Teahouse Reappears, at the Port of LA
After months of anticipation, the Griffith Park Teahouse has reappeared, in a new installation at the Port of Los Angeles. Constructed from redwoods burned by the 2007 Griffith Park Fire, the Teahouse was built without approval in a remote corner of Griffith Park by an anonymous artist collective who also created the recent Petal Drop. Now fully embraced by the Los Angeles Departments of Cultural Affairs and Recreation and Parks, the teahouse is on the road, bearing ‘wish plaques’ for Los Angeles. Its first stop is on Knoll Hill in San Pedro and its temporary stay will be accompanied by special events. Meanwhile a bench by the group has been erected in Griffith Park on the site of the teahouse.

Opening, Saturday, March 5, 2016 4–6 pm Join artists from San Pedro’s Machine Community Art Studio to give new wish plaques a distinctive San Pedro look at this collaborative drawing activity. Art supplies will be provided. Sunset Concert: The California Feetwarmers will perform from 5-6 pm.

2. Ray Kappe + Hernan Diaz Alonso: Duel + Duet
The Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) was founded by esteemed LA late-Modern architect Ray Kappe and a group of fellow renegades on his dismissal from Cal Poly Pomona in 1972. Now the school is helmed by Hernan Diaz Alonso. On Wednesday the two past and present leaders will discuss the school and the state of architecture.

3) Test Run of the New Foothill Extension/CicLAvia The Valley
How about a ride on the newly opening Gold Line Foothill Extension and see where that takes you! On March 5th, the Metro is scheduled to open the Gold Line Foothill Extension. And on the following day, CicLAvia returns to The Valley, hosting four miles of car-free streets from 9 am to 4 pm. Participate on bike, foot, skateboard, wheelchair or other non-motorized vehicle. The route will take people through Pacoima, Arleta, North Hills East, and Panorama City.

4) L.A. Zine Fest 2016/Dublab at Union Station
The 5th annual L.A. Zine Fest returns to its inaugural neighborhood – downtown L.A. – to celebrate self-publishing and DIY culture in the community. This year’s Fest will feature over 200 zinesters –writers, illustrators, comics creators, photographers and more — selling, trading and sharing their work.

5) Santa Monica Conservancy Celebrates Julia Morgan
Julia Morgan, California’s first woman architect, produced over 700 projects in nearly five decades of practice including the Marion Davies Estate, built in the late 1920s by William Randolph Hearst for Marion Davies.
The public is invited to come celebrate the achievements of this pioneering designer. Karen McNeill, Ph.D, is currently writing a biography and will give a talk entitled Julia Morgan and Phoebe Hearst: Building Legacies Together; thereafter guests can see Morgan’s work first hand through a tour of the Marion Davies Guest House and the historic tiled pool.
When: Sunday, March 6, 11 am – 2 pm; talk by Karen McNeill, 11 am; Tour of estate: 12 pm – 2 pm.
