1. Conquer the Bridge

This Labor Day, head to Long Beach’s Vincent Thomas Bridge, where there will be a 5.3 mile race taking place across its span. Run, walk, or simply watch the excitement along one of Socal’s impressive pieces of infrastructure.

2. Urban Hardwoods and Prouvé’s Metal Furniture

Visit a new showroom dedicated to furniture constructed from salvaged wood in Santa Monica. Or head to Vitra in the Helms Bakery District and check out their installation of industrial furniture at its finest: a selection of Jean Prouvé’s 1940s chairs and desks, newly released in a gorgeous line of autumnal greens, in a collaboration between Vitra, the Prouve family and Dutch fashion company G-Star RAW. 3. Petit Takett: Love, Legacy, and Recipes from the Maghreb

Head to the Skirball for the opening of a new exhibit dedicated to Los Angeles artist and photographer Orly Olivier’s Tunisian Jewish heritage. The exhibit “features a diverse collection of original and historic photographs, family heirlooms, ephemera, and original letterpress posters that illustrate the journey of Olivier’s family from Tunisia to Israel and finally to the United States between the 1950s and the present.”

When: Opens September 1, 2015

4. E.T. The Extraterrestrial- in Concert 

For lovers of E.T., watch the Los Angeles Philharmonic perform John Williams original score of the film at the Hollywood Bowl this Friday.

5. A Kingdom of Images: French Prints in the Age of Louis XIV, 1660–1715

Under Louis XIV aka the Sun King’s reign, Paris became a prolific producer of prints. “Prints were at once a means of communication, a propaganda tool, and an art form in ever-increasing demand. Printmakers and print publishers produced hundreds of thousands of works on paper in a century that was as hungry for imagery as ours is today.” Head to the Getty to see a show of these prints which closes this Sunday.
