1. Prouvé RAW
Jean Prouvé’s Bureau Métallique and his Fauteuil Direction Pivotant are among designs he created in the 1940s for the offices of French companies now relaunched in a collaboration between the Dutch denim brand, G-Star RAW, Vitra and the Prouvé family. This second edition for the team is currently on show at Helms Design Center.

2. Mirror Mirror
Head to Laura Korman Gallery where there’s an exhibition on view entitled “MIRROR | MIRROR” by local artist Katherine Rohrbacher. The exhibit features a series of self portraits that balance “dual elements of whimsy and foreboding.” The exhibit draws influences such as “Alice and Wonderland” and other whimsical narratives to communicate “vignettes of thoughts, memories, and experiences” that Katherine has experienced.

3. Kim Stringfellow’s Jackrabbit Homestead
What exists at the fringes of LA’s sprawl? Kim Stringfellow explores the topic through photos and recorded interviews. The exhibit examines “how the desire to flee the urban sprawl of Los Angeles and stake a claim in the fierce California desert resulted in both a collection of derelict cabins originally built in the 1950s and the reclamation of the land and structures for a burgeoning artistic community today.”

4. Raymond Chandler’s Los Angeles Bus Tour
Explore Raymond Chandler’s Los Angeles with Esotouric this Saturday where you’ll get the chance to see some of the sites in LA relevant to the writer’s life and career– from the “downtown streets he roamed as a young oil executive to his uniquely poisonous portrayal of the city’s hustlers, heavies and suckers.”
When: Saturday, August 22, 12pm-4pm
Where: Tour departs from The Daily Dose, 1820 Industrial St., Los Angeles

5. Lunchtime Art Talk on Mark Bradford
An exhibition at the Hammer Museum called “Scorched Earth” by Mark Bradford examines “the moment and afterlife of the 1992 uprisings in Los Angeles, which he experienced from his studio in Leimert Park.” Through a series of paintings, Bradford explores “the outrage and lasting wounds of the riots.” Along with viewing the exhibition, this Wednesday you can hear Mark Bradford talk about his art and what inspires him.

Make sure you check out SHELTER: Rethinking How We Live in Los Angeles at A+D Museum. Curated by Sam Lubell and Danielle Rago, the exhibit explores “how new forms of shelter can respond to changes both in the cultural fabric and the physical landscape of the city, better addressing its pressing issues.” It looks at proposals (both built and speculative) from architectural firms MAD Architects, Michael Maltzan Architects, Bestor Architecture, OMA, LA Más, Lorcan O’Herlihy Architects, PAR, wHY Architecture and more.
