1. Sunset Swim at the Annenberg Community Beach House 

What’s that sound? Ah yes, it’s the sound of a relaxing art deco pool without screaming kids and wild splashing. It’s the 18+ Annenberg Sunset Swim – a picture perfect beach adjacent pool where you don’t have to play lifeguard and entertainer. As rare as the hand-restored tiles featured at the pool.

When: Friday August 14 from 6:30-9:30 PM

Where: Annenberg Community Beach House; 415 Pacific Coast Hwy, Santa Monica

Tickets: 18+ only. $10 adults; $5 for seniors

2. The First with the Latest!: Aggie Underwood, the Los Angeles Herald, and the Sordid Crimes of a City

Aggie Underwood was a reporter in Los Angeles and she was the first woman to become an editor at a major metropolitan newspaper. Head to the Central branch of the Los Angeles Public Library this Thursday to visit the opening reception of an exhibition dedicated to Underwood’s darkest reporting work.

When: Thursday, August 13, 2015 Time: 6:00pm to 8:00pm

Where: Central Library History/Genealogy Dept. – LL4; 630 W. 5th Street, Los Angeles

3. History Keepers: Storied Objects from Los Angeles Collections

For even more L.A. history, head to Pico House where there’s an exhibit on display by The California Historical Society and LA as Subject on a variety of material objects that help tell L.A.’s history.

When: Runs until August 31, 2015

Where: The Pico House; 424 N Main St, Los Angeles

Tickets: Free and open to the public.

4. Sanitarium

Photographer Jason House created a photo series on the Rockhaven Sanitarium in Glendale. Opened in 1923, the sanitarium was an all-women’s facility designed for its inhabitants to have access to tranquil outdoor spaces. Currently, there are efforts to turn the site into a park, but in the meantime, check out some of the intriguing photos of the space in downtown LA.

When: Opening night on Thursday, August 13, 2015  from 6-8pm

Where: 417 South Hill, Los Angeles

5. Art Center Graduation Show

See the work of Art Center graduates this Saturday at Art Center’s Graduation Show. Among the designs and prototypes you’ll be able to see a snow sport helmet to help save skiers in an avalanche and a high performance electric vehicle.

When: Saturday, August 15, 2015 from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM

Where: Art Center College of Design – Hillside and South Campus; 1700 Lida St., Pasadena
