3.  “Revolution of Forms: Cuba’s Forgotten Art Schools”: Talk and book-signing by John A. Loomis

One of the most fascinating built legacies of Castro’s regime in Cuba is the complex of three organic brick and terra–cotta vaulted Art Schools, designed — but never finished — by architects Ricardo Porro, Roberto Gottardi , and Vittorio Garatti in the heady early days of the revolution. John Loomis will discuss his book “Revolution of Forms: Cuba’s Forgotten Art Schools.” While there, check out Hidden ARTifacts, an exhibition of architectural designs, mostly by students from USC, Woodbury and SCI-Arc, which includes a drawing of downtown Havana. Note that from the gallery you can get a view of the emerging Expo Line.

When: Thursday, August 6, 2015, 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM

Where: Building Bridges Art Exchange; 2525 Michigan Ave, Santa Monica

Tickets: Free and open to the public.

5. Sink or Swim

As the president unfurls his proposal for mitigating climate change by reducing dependence on dirty fuels, consider how societies will also adapt to environments already impacted by climate change, from the Netherlands to Bangladesh. That’s the goal of the photography exhibition Sink or Swim, curated by DnA’s Frances Anderton for the Annenberg Space for Photography, and now relocated for the summer to the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach.

When: On view until September 15, 2015

Where: Aquarium of the Pacific; 100 Aquarium Way, Long Beach

Tickets: Included in the price of admission.
