1. Troika: Cartography of Control
This is the last week to see the fascinating Cartography of Control, the first stateside exhibition by Troika, the UK-based artist collective Conny Freyer, Eva Rucki and Sebastien Noel. This brainy show uses drawings, installations and sculptures to explore the idea that society has become “increasingly governed by rational thinking and scientific methodology” — through maps that offer “different accounts of the same territory” and an installation that appears to change shape depending where the viewer is standing.

2. Costume to Collection: Arianne Phillips in Conversation with Sharon S. Takeda
Rev up for the visual element of the Oscars, and hear Oscar-nominated costume designer Arianne Phillips discuss her recent work in films and her upcoming film, Kingsman: The Secret Service. And follow DnA’s coverage of the Oscar-nominated production designers, here.

3. Facades Plus
If there’s one thing that the debate surrounding the newly unveiled “veil” of the Broad Museum demonstrated, it was that facades, aka skins, matter (see Broad, next to Disney Concert Hall, above). For those that want to delve into the nitty gritty of building exteriors, both performative, aesthetically challenging, and even built by robots, join architects and builders at Facades Plus, a two-day conference in downtown Los Angeles hosted by The Architect’s Newspaper. Speakers include AN’s Sam Lubell, LA architects Lawrence Scarpa and Alvin Huang, ARUP’s Russell Fortmeyer, fabricator Andreas Froech and many others.

A new show featured at the Craft and Folk Art Museum examines the work of eight male quilters. In a field that has historically been associated with females, the artists offer a unique expression of masculinity.

5. Anish Kapoor
Head to Regen Projects this month for their newly opened exhibit of work by the London-based, Mumbai-born artist (Sir) Anish Kapoor. Kapoor is well-known for his large site-specific installations that “push the limits of sculptural form” while making use of simple materials (notable public works include the much-debated Arcelor-Mittal Orbit observation tower at the 2012 Olympic site in London, created with Cecil Balmond).
