In part one of a three-part lecture series, architect Zoltan E. Pali, founder of Culver City-based Studio Pali Fekete architects [SPF:a], will discuss his work on the recently completed Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, involving the adaptation and expansion of a Spanish Mission Revival Post Office into a contemporary concert hall and performance space.” Architectural writer (and past DnA guest) Thomas Aujero Small will moderate a discussion that is presented by the Culver City Cultural Affairs Foundation.

2. When the Future had Fins: Automobile Design and Concepts, 1959-1973
Head to the Christopher Mount Gallery at the Pacific Design Center Friday evening for the opening reception of a new exhibition “When the Future had Fins: Automobile Design and Concepts, 1959-1973.” Featuring design sketches from the “Big Three” automakers: Ford, General Motors and Chrysler, the exhibit details how the future was conceived in the design of automobiles in the years before the oil crisis.
While there, check out the other exhibits taking place at the PDC as part of the center’s 40 year anniversary.

3. Heidi Duckler: Parts and Labor Redux
Car culture lives on. “With choreography that explores America’s love affair with the automobile,” Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre, known for its dance performances in architectural and urban spaces, re-issues “Parts and Labor,” a play where performers will dance “on and around a 1970 Cadillac Coupe de Ville.”
Closing night at SCI-Arc (January 24, 2015) will include an after party with drinks and catering by Guerrilla Tacos.

4. Crafting the Cocktail: Handmade Objects and Implements for Classic and Modern Libations
Cocktails have never been more complicated and niche than they are today. But what about the vessels that make it easier and more stylish to sip on your rum with artisanal ice? Head to “Crafting the Cocktail,” an exhibit on display at the Craft in America Center in downtown Los Angeles. The show is part of PBS’s series that explores America’s craft movement.

5. “Generators of the Cylinder” Sculpture Relit in Pershing Square
After about a decade in the dark, artist Michael Hayden’s 1982 sculpture, Generators of the Cylinder, a 270-foot-long “chain of holographically etched polycarbonate semi-cylinder” in the jewelry district of Los Angeles, will be relit. The public is invited to come celebrate the return of the neon sculpture.
