1. Competing Utopias

Fascinating concept for an exhibition in which chairs, tables, lamps, books and more from the Cold War-era Eastern block are installed in place of those typically installed in the experimental, Richard Neutra-designed VDL Research House in Silver Lake. The idea is for visitors to “have their preconceived notions challenged and have to take a deeper look and reimagine architectural and material cultures of the Cold War era.” Read an interview with the designers here.

When: Sunday July 13 to Sept. 13

Where: Neutra VDL Research House; 2300 Silver Lake Boulevard, Los Angeles

Tickets: $10 on Saturdays; 10 suggested donation on other days.

2. Punk’d Installation

This latest installation in the SCI-Arc Gallery, by F-Lab’s Heather Flood, takes its cues from Scottish tartan (famously reimagined in the 1970s by the matriarch of punk, Vivian Westwood), which is produced by weaving strips of colored thread into a grid of rectangular shapes, eliciting new colors when the threads overlap. Flood “explores the visual effects” that can be produced when two-dimensional graphic patterns are translated into three-dimensional constructions.”

When: Installation runs until August 3, 2014

Where: SCI-Arc Gallery

Tickets: Free and open to the public.

unnamed3. Marmol Radziner Jewelry

Architecture and bespoke construction firm Marmol Radziner has branched out into jewelry designed by Robin Cottle, graphic designer and wife of Ron Radziner. The “natural, distressed, dark, and “torched” finish pieces” were intended to meet Ron Radziner’s desire for jewelry for himself that was “neither too flashy nor too dull;” and new additions to the collection will be presented Thursday, along with a talk by Radziner, in a simpatico setting: Heath Ceramics.

When: Thursday, July 10 from 6:30PM to 8:30PM

Where: Heath Ceramics, 7525 Beverly Blvd., Los Angeles

Tickets: Free but RSVP here.

There was a time when plastic was an excuse to party! Dixie’s Tupperware Party, a play staring Dixie Longate as the “fast-talking Tupperware Lady who has packed up her catalogues, and left her children in an Alabama trailer park to journey across America, has come to LA’s Geffen Theater for a summer run. This campy take on Tupperware Parties also includes “giveaways, audience participation and the most fabulous assortment of Tupperware ever sold on a theater stage!”

When: July 8 – August 3, 2014

Where: Geffen Playhouse; 10886 Le Conte Avenue, Los Angeles
