1) Dutch students design an e-motorcycle
If Jules Verne could have imagined smart energy in the 21st century, his epic adventure around the world might have included this motorcycle. As it is, nearly 150 years later, the STORM team from the Technical University of Eindhoven in the Netherlands has not just imagined the adventure, they are living it, and they are doing it with zero emissions. The students designed, built and maintained a fully electric motorcycle that is currently driving around the world in 80 days. The Dutch Consulate General of the Netherlands and Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator have collaborated to welcome the STORM team to Los Angeles. The event will also be used for the business community to gather around the theme of zero-emission transportation and transatlantic investment opportunities.

2) The Art of the Halloween Mask
Haven’t decided what to be for Halloween yet? Or maybe you’ve been planning all year, but haven’t figured out the final touches? Then come out to Lethal Amounts Saturday night to see this exhibit of world class Halloween masks and spooky effects, including a collection of vintage masks dating back to the 1960’s.

3) 11th Annual Los Angeles Archives Bazaar
Presented by L.A. as Subject and the USC Libraries, this event offers a full day of exhibits, workshops and demonstrations highlighting the unique history and diverse stories that make Los Angeles such a fascinating region. From the true stories behind the fantasy mythology of Los Angeles to the realities of current day struggles, a broad array of institutions and archives will have experts on hand to show off their collections and answer questions.

Utopia or Dystopia? Presented as part of a series of events marking the December 2016 half-millennial anniversary of Sir Thomas More’s Utopia, “500 Years of Utopia” opens a discussion of politics, democracy, and leadership, asking what Utopian governance might look like in today’s Los Angeles. Participants include moderator and architecture writer Geoff Manaugh, Santa Monica city manager Rick Cole, planning historian and USC Price professor David Sloane, and Aurora Tang from the Center for Land Use Interpretation. 4) 6th Annual Found L.A.: Festival of Neighborhoods “The Soul of the City”
In its 6th year, The Festival of Neighborhoods was founded to bring Angelenos closer together in appreciation and understanding of our diversity and cultural heritages. Organized by LA Commons, this year’s series of tours will focus on religion and spirituality in Los Angeles under the banner “The Soul of the City.” The tours will explore the amazing diversity of religions and spirituality across Los Angeles and the cultural practices embedded within them. Partake in food offerings at Wat Thai Temple in North Hollywood, view the extraordinary historic murals inside the First AME church in Los Angeles, learn about how yoga and meditation were introduced to the West by the Hindu Swami, Paramahansa Yogananda and become familiar with the Islamic community, including its mosques. Join the Los Angeles Conservancy and the Los Angeles Department of City Planning’s Office of Historic Resources for a day-long forum on neighborhood conservation, including presentations by experts in the field, interactive workshops, and dialogue with community stakeholders. The conference is presented in partnership with the West Adams Heritage Association. The theme of this year’s conference is community character, and the balance between preservation and ‘progress’. 5) S/Election: Democracy, Citizenship, Freedom
This free exhibit at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery (managed by the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs) and located at Barnsdall Art Park is a platform for local artists to weigh in on the subject of citizenship and its relationship to this year’s presidential election politics.
“S/Election addresses issues around citizenship that have been increasingly prominent leading up to the 45th presidential election. The constructs of citizenship are constantly shifting, especially in conversation with politically pressing issues such as voting rights, immigration reform, education reform, identity politics, and criminal justice. S/Election responds to various inquiries around citizenship such as, what does it mean to be an active citizen or exercise your rights, what does the status of “citizen” imply to those that are disenfranchised, displaced, immigrants, or refugees, and how does identity play into the privileges and/or duties of citizenship.”
