1. Fútbol: The Beautiful Game
In a stroke of counterprogramming, LACMA opened this artistic celebration of soccer on the same day as the Superbowl! In anticipation of the Brazil world cup, this exhibition of video, photography, painting, sculpture and installation looks at issues of “nationalism, identity, globalism, and mass spectacle as well as the shared human experience between spectators from a multitude of cultures.”

2. Global City
For those who like to explore ideas in architecture and planning, this discussion, helmed by Big City Forum, “examines the ways in which we view, interact with and respond to public space.” It responds to the current exhibition “Global Citizen: The Architecture of Moshe Safdie” but might be worth considering in light of the large-scale work in China of architect Steven Holl, now on show at the MAK Center.

3. Miwa Matreyek ‘This World Made Itself’
LA-based animator, designer, and multimedia artist Miwa Matreyek silhouettes her own body into the projections of alluring animations. See her perform her newest work, This World Made Itself, alongside her short Myth and Infrastructure, at REDCAT
While at REDCAT check out the conceptual Enlightenment Discourse on the Origins of Architecture, in which artist Pablo Bronstein presents a “staged essay,” examining, “by means of a series of drawings and furniture, the origins of architecture from the naturalistic perspective of the Enlightenment.”

4. Otis Creative Economy
Otis College of Art and Design, in collaboration with the Kyser Center for Economic Research, presents its annual report on LA’s “creative economy,” a fascinating snapshot of LA’s design industries — encompassing everything from architecture and animation to toy production and fashion — and how much they contribute to the LA area economy. The presentation includes networking and a panel featuring LA Arts experts.

5. Brendan Ravenhill and Scout Regalia Studio Sale
Brendan Ravenhill and Benjamin Luddy and Makoto Mizutani of Scout Regalia are young Los Angeles-based designers of furniture, lighting, products and spaces, both interviewed on past DnA shows, who are part of the movement to design and manufacture (where possible) in LA.
